A shopping trip across the border

Once every few months I venture across the Canada-US Border for some shopping. I go with a few girlfriends and we make a whole day of it. We start very early, get home very late. Although we have been on this road trip about a dozen times already, we still manage to miss the highway exit as we are so busy talking.

This past visit was no different. Each one of us has our favorite destinations – Target, Macy’s, Victoria’s Secret and Justice. As we don’t have those and other stores in Canada we often have very successful shopping days and get lots of great stuff for our kids. Interestingly though, we rarely shop for ourselves.

In my case, while I love the clothes and shoes, I’m all about the food. My best part of the day is when I have time to grocery shop and buy some of the great allergy friendly products. A favorite in our family is Cherrybrook Kitchen.

I purchased the chocolate cake mix, chocolate chip cookie mix, sugar cookie mix and the chocolate frosting. I also purchased some for my friends whose kids also have nut allergies. Cherrybrook Kitchen products are peanut free, dairy free, egg free and nut free.

Another favorite is Schar gluten free products. While we don’t have gluten allergies or celiac in our family, a friend has Celiac so I often stock up for her during my grocery store splurge. In fact, her daughter has multiple food allergies so I usually go with a short list of product to buy for her in addition to my own. Their favorite is the gluten free breadsticks.

I also stock up on Enjoy Life products, like Snickerdoodle cookies and the Mountain Mambo Trail Mix (my hubby’s favorite). My only complaint is that the bags are not bigger! Between my husband, kids and our friends, we eat so much of these products that I would like to be able to purchase them in large sizes. I often send a few handfuls to school in the kids lunches as they make a great snack.

Now, if only there was a Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s in Buffalo I would make the trip more often!
