Some parents say that one of the most challenging things upon first being diagnosed with a peanut allergy is knowing that you will never be able to have peanut butter in your home again and for many, peanut butter is a staple. Families who have survived on peanut butter for years are often lost with it and left wondering if a substitute will do. Well, we are here to bring good news to those who have peanut allergies and to those who simply love to eat.
For people with nut allergies, this is a great peanut butter alternative – made in a nut free facility.
Sunbutter is a great peanut butter alternative and is made from roasted sunflower seeds in a facility that is gluten free, peanut free and tree nut free. The product is delicious. It looks and smells like peanut butter and when we sent it with the kids to school on the first day – we sent a note with it so that the lunch supervisors would not confiscate it. The company also products individual packages which are great for taking to school, on class trips and to the park.
I often find myself making a sunbutter sandwich or wrap for lunch as I enjoy eating it even when the kids are not around. We always pack sunbutter sandwiches for class trips or family outings and I’ve tried to get creative with them. Of course, we enjoy sunbutter and jam. We’ve also had the sandwiches with honey. Sometimes, I use cookie cutters to make funky shapes for the kids when they remind me that they don’t like to eat the crusts!
I have also turned many of my friends onto Sunbutter and they now use it in their homes. My friend Michelle has a special label on it reminding her family to only use a clean knife when using this product. This way she ensures there is no cross contamination in the product.
We recently visited the Sunbutter website and found some recipes. This weekend we made the Sunbutter Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies and took the to a friend’s house for dessert.

Nut Free And Peanut Free Homemade Cookies
When my friend Stephanie tried them she looked at me funny and asked why I would use peanut butter in the cookies? I smiled and told her about Sunbutter. Stephanie’s husband loved them too and the kids gobbled them up. Luckily I brought a large basket!
This product considered to be school safe as the products do not contain any nuts, nor are there any nuts in the facility. So next time you are making lunches for your kids, you can check out Sunbutter. We think its delicious.
