This weekend, we made a box of the Doodles gluten free sugar cookies from the mix. They were super easy to make – a few ingredients mixed together, spaced on a cookie sheet and baked, and bingo – great cookies!
We chose to make the vanilla flavor and we took the whole batch to dinner with us. Overall, they were really well received – we didn’t tell anyone that they were gluten free. The cookies were a little crumbly and the kids made quite a mess, but truly, that’s half of the fun of eating cookies. The adults liked them too although a few said they tasted a little dry. What I really liked is that the cookies didn’t have a terrible after taste. They were crumbly and good and I would definitely buy them to serve to guests who have gluten allergies or who have a gluten intolerance.
We also gave a box of the cookies that were sent to us by Doodles to a friend whose daughter has food sensitivities. They made the chocolate chip cookies which they also said were really easy to make. They made them completely dairy free, using Earth Balance butter sticks, instead of margarine. They followed the instructions exactly and the cookies came out perfectly. Here’s what the testers had to say, “They looked great, very chocolatey, and soft and chewy, which we preferred over crunchy, so that worked well. Overall, the cookies tasted good – not great – but the kids are not turning them down! They do not have the traditional gluten free taste or after taste you sometimes find, so that is a big bonus for us. Many of the products we have tried leave an after-taste.”
Thanks to Deborah at Doodles for sending us these cookies mixes. We give them the thumbs up rating. To determine if these products are right for your family, you can visit their website or complete the contact form.
